Citizen Volunteer Units are utilized to assist the Yucaipa Police Department in meeting law enforcement objectives during the normal course of operation, as well as, times of disasters and emergencies. The program encourages community support and understanding of law enforcement through involvement in volunteer units such as Citizen on Patrol, Equestrian on Patrol and many administrative, specialized and support functions.
The primary mission of the Reserve Deputy Sheriff program is to supplement law enforcement functions at the patrol division level of the Department. Reserve Deputy Sheriffs, while on duty, are regarded by the Department, and the community, as equal in authority and responsibility with regular deputies and as such are required to meet the same expectations.
The primary mission of the Explorer Scout Program is to educate and mentor youth and provide in-depth firsthand experience in the field of Law Enforcement. The program is intended to interest youth in possible Law Enforcement careers, and to build mutual understanding. Through involvement, this program will establish an awareness of the complexities of law enforcement services. This program is intended for the benefit of youth from age 14 through 20.
The Explorer Program shall serve as a potential recruitment tool for future men and women in Law Enforcement and as a community relations effort between the Sheriff’s Department, the youth and the community as a whole. The program will be utilized, as a service group within the community and, by its nature, will have potential use as supplemental manpower to the Yucaipa Police Department and Sheriff’s Department.
The program is designed to develop and uphold the basic objectives of the explorer division of the Boy Scouts of America/Learning for Life through Law Enforcement to explorers in the areas of character building, leadership development, and appreciation for community services and good citizenship.
Search and Rescue
San Bernardino is the largest county within the United States. The county spans 20,105 square miles encompassing vast deserts, mountain ranges, urban cities, many lakes and the Colorado River. People from across the world can be found throughout the year hiking, rock climbing, water sports and snow skiing. Our volunteers save many lives during their search and rescue missions in every type of environment.
The primary mission of search and rescue volunteers is to search for and rescue persons on behalf of the Sheriff of San Bernardino County. Additional missions may include evidence searches and assignments at the direction of the Department.
